Kindle Tips and Tricks

Well I have bought this neat device and have been buying ebooks and have had great success with the ease at finding books there. When I got the Kindle I wanted to find any kind of modification, tips, or tricks for this device. After searching I found some things that I wanted to share with everyone.

1. It can be used as an MP3 player as it as a headphone jack and speakers. If you go to the site as i listed above it has MP3’s that can be downloaded to the kindle. The only thing is that you need to buy the software which is required for you to connect and purchase from their website.

2. A number of people have complained that it’s impossible to close the flap of the Kindle’s cover without pressing one of the navigation buttons. An easy solution: simply put Kindle to sleep before closing the cover. To do this, simply press Alt + the text key (aA) as though you were waking it from sleep. Putting Kindle into sleep mode also conserves battery life.

3. If you want to know the time while you’re reading, pressing Alt + T will briefly display it for you in the bottom left footer, where “Location” is usually displayed. Note that this features works only in the Reader.

4. Dropping your MP3 based podcasts into the (Audible) folder on your Kindle or SD memory card will allow you to see the podcast in Home. When opened, you can bookmark, pause, fast forward, etc., just like you do with an audiobook.

5. From the general Search box. Just start your search with the term below followed by your search term: @store – searches the Kindle Store, @web – searches the web, @wiki – searches Wikipedia, @help – lists these shortcuts above.

6. If you sort your Home screen by title or author, you can type a letter to jump to the first item that begins with that letter.

7 Getting to your home screen is very easy and can be accomplished by pressing the Home key on the bottom row of the keyboard.

If you are even contemplating on buying this piece of software I think its a must have. can anyone say lets go GREEN, no more paper being wasted 🙂

Amazon Kindle

Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device

Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. – The Amazon Kindle Team

Revolutionary electronic-paper display provides a sharp, high-resolution screen that looks and reads like real paper. Simple to use: no computer, no cables, no syncing.
Wireless connectivity enables you to find, buy, and read instantly—whether you’re in the back of a taxi, at the airport, or in bed. Shop the Kindle Store directly from your Kindle. Buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute

What about the students?

I think the kindle is a great product and a huge step up from the Sony ebook. I would purchase one in a heartbeat if it had college textbooks. College textbooks are expensive and heavy. It is impossible to fit the twelve college textbooks, that i am required to have for this upcoming semester, into my backpack. Even if the books did fit in my bag they would be too heavy for me to carry. College books are also very expensive. I often find myself spending hundereds of dollars each semester on books. Some of which a never even end up using. I would absolutley love to buy all my college textbooks and store them on the kindle. I feel that this piece of technology would be well worth the money if I could use it for school. I am sure that many other students feel the same way.

Love My Kindle

I tend to expect “less than”, especially when purchasing a new gadget. What I got was More Than I expected with the Kindle. It is simple to operate and does everything it is supposed to do.

It is lightweight & easy on the eyes. There are thousands of books to choose from. Look forward to more newspapers and magazines becoming available.

The Kindle has me reading again! I highly recommend it!

Must Have for Commuters

It’s not perfect, but in my opinion its the best new device since Tivo. Although not as flashy most new gadgets, it grows on you very quicikly. I was initially annoyed with how easy it is to accidentally turn pages, but got over it once I figured out how to hold it just right, which is no different that what is required of a new book, magazine or newspaper.

If you commute via public transportaion its great to be able to read the paper while standing and “turn pages” with one hand. Web-browser is more functional than I expected and does the job for reading news and sports scores. By turning off the wireless after downloading morning papaers it only needs a charge about once a week

Well I have bought the Amazon Kindle which is an electronic ebook reader. When I got the Kindle I wanted to find any kind of modification, tips, or tricks for this device. After searching I found some things that I wanted to share with everyone.

Amazon Kindle Review

What is an Amazon Kindle? It is a wireless reading device created by Amazon that allows you to read newspapers, books, ebooks, magazines, blogs and more from a handheld device. The kindle is about the size of your regular size paperback book. It connects to the Amazon Kindle Store, so you don’t need to get online to download your media. You can read and buy books 24 hours a day. It even let’s you surf the web, but the view you get is not as good as you would see from a regular computer. The Amazon store even has lots of FREE samples to download. All your books you purchase through the Amazon Kindle store will also be backed up on Amazon. If you lose your Kindle, you will still have your books you have purchased.

This device is very lightweight and can be taken anywhere you go. This is something that is great for the frequent traveler. No more packing and toting around heavy books. With the Amazon Kindle, you can download over 90,000 books and growing. These include most the New York Times Best Sellers. The Amazon Kindle can store up to 200 books and downloads the books within minutes. Can you pack around 200 books with you at all times? Another cool feature of the Amazon Kindle is it has a built in dictionary. You also have buttons to turn the page and when you are done, it will remember where you left off.

The Amazon Kindle automatically delivers your favorite magazines or newspaper to you each day. You can have your favorite magazines or newspapers, like The Wall Street Journal or Forbes, delivered to you each day before it hits the news stands. The kindle also automatically updates blog and feeds all day long.

There are only a few downsides to the Amazon Kindle. There is no place to rest your hands. There is no built in light, so you will have to in the light to view it. It also can be a bit on the high price end.

If you have the money to spend, I would recommend buying one of these gadgets. You will save space in your home, instead of filling your bookcase full of books. You will have your books at your fingertips. The Amazon Kindle uses electronic ink, which makes it look like you are reading an actual book too! If you are a book lover, this definitely should be on your wish list!

In 2001 Apple launched the iPod. Why bother, everyone said, there were already hundreds of different digital music players at the time and most people dismissed the idea out of hand. Three hundred and ninety-nine dollars for a music player? Too expensive. No FM radio or a microphone. It will never catch on. Will the Amazon Kindle Be a Success?

In 2001 Apple launched the iPod. Why bother, everyone said, there were already hundreds of different digital music players at the time and most people dismissed the idea out of hand. Three hundred and ninety-nine dollars for a music player? Too expensive. No FM radio or a microphone. It will never catch on. Well, as we know now, it turns out they were wrong on all counts – and how. Apple shares were $9.51 the day before the launch – today they are around $160. But enough of the history lesson. Here are five reasons why the Kindle is the next must-have gadget akin to the iPod or PSP.

1. It actually addresses a real problem

Who needs to carry 80 books around with them? Well, I don’t, and I’m sure most of you don’t either. What about a thousand – now you’re just being silly! Sony’s failed e-book reader boasted enough memory to carry around a small, or even medium sized library. Great if you’re a professor who needs to reference his life work while on the move, but just a bit over the top for most of us. Me, well I just want to read one book at a time. Still, that doesn’t mean to say that when I finish my book I always go to sleep – sometimes I want to read another. Sometimes I’m in the mood for something different to the book I just finished. Sometimes it was even so good that I want to read something else by the same author. Well, Kindle is the first ebook reader with its own cellular wireless connection that lets you get new books anytime, almost anywhere whenever you like. It’s not wifi so you don’t need to find hot spots – it’s like a cell phone. Magazines and newspapers – no problem, your digital paperboy will deliver them fresh to your (digital) doorstep in an instant.

2. It has a ready made library of good quality cheap material

Any new gadget will ultimately fail or succeed on the fuel that drives it – content! Well, with Amazon throwing its weight firmly behind the Kindle, you needn’t worry about the availablility of material. Until now, some ebook readers have failed miserably in this vital aspect with narrow choices of material, and downloads often costing more than their traditional paperback equivalents. Kindle scores on price – most of its material costs around 10 bucks and many are less – this is cheaper than a normal book. Wait, I hear you cry, but the cellular wireless connection must cost a fortune. Nope – its included in the price of the device and the downloads. Sp, what about periodicals? Big savings are to be had here as well as publishers throw themselves onto the digital bandwagon. A year of the Wall Street Journal in print is $249 versus $9.99 a month ($120 a year) via Kindle – and you can still read it in the loo!
Getting your own documents onto the Kindle can be done via email but this does, admittedly incur an extra charge, although it is just 10 cents a go. The email service supports several formats of open-source books as well as Microsoft Word and text-based, the only real omission that I would like to have seen included is PDF support. No doubt this will be forthcoming, and there are workarounds available in any case

3. Jeff Bezos is a proven visionary

Ok, its not a rock solid guarantee of success bit just look at the guys track record. First he built his online superstore beating out thousands of more established competitors – anyone not heard of Amazon here – I thought so. Amazon.com got so many things right, including the important focus on reader reviews, cheap shipping and giant selection. I’d put my money on him to make this to a success.

4. Its smart and well designed

As I’ve pointed out its packed with gadgets like free wireless cell connection a real keyboard to let you search in a book or document, page turning buttons on both sides of the screen – Ned Flanders will definitely be stocking these in the Leftorium. But another major decision will also help Kindle take off. It’s not hanging off your computer. You don’t need to sync it with a computer. Purchases are backed up online by Amazon so you can delete and recover any book you bought. Basically, it does everything it was designed to do in a simple elegant manner – remind anyone of a certain MP3 player?

5. It’s cool

There are potentially millions of consumers who will buy Kindle for this very reason. Just like PSP’s, IPods and IPhones before it – the take up of the next cool gadget is normally a huge success if the distributors get it right, and when it come to product distribution Amazon rarely fail. If you still don’t believe me, go and watch the video on my website. This is a nifty gizmo that elegantly solves real problems for consumers.

Audiobooks Easier Than Ever – Amazon Kindle

How many books do you have congesting the shelves of your library? Can you imagine to remove them all and holding over 200 titles in a little device, which is lighter and thinner than a typical paperback and weighs only 10.3 ounces.

This new device (released in November of 2007) can download text in a variety of formats from Amazon and other places. The books or documents can be read on the screen of the kindle, or they can be listened to on the device. If you would love the ability to read along with an audible book, you will find out that this feature is not possible right now. However, since there is the feature that allows MP3’s to be played while reading, you should consider to download Audiobooks in MP3 Format.

Amazon has created their own file format for the device (AZW). However, it can also read .txt files and some .pdf files (although .pdf files are not fully supported at this time). On ‘opening day’ Kindle had 88,000 titles available through Amazon.. One can read fiction or non-fiction books as well as everything from best sellers to more obscure titles.

According to one industry expert the Kindle is still too expensive for a mainstream audience at $399.

Another benefit of Amazons Kindle in combination with MP3 books is that they can play a vital role in developing fluency and comprehensions skills of children. If you let your kid hear the audiobook and follow along in the Kindle ebook version it will build decoding skills and vocabulary that are essential for improving reading accuracy and rates.

The Kindle is a breakthrough device, in many ways analogous to the first iPod. Just as the iPod brought MP3 players to the masses, the Kindle will be the device that introduces ebooks and audiobooks to many people. [http://www.nopaperback.com]NoPaperback is the blog of Audado.com. Audado offers over 5,000 downloadable audio books and spoken word material Books are organized by categories like biography, fiction, history, humor, religion, and self help.
